How to Make Delicious Donuts at Home - Easy 7-Step Recipe

Gather Your Ingredients

Ingredients:

– 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast – 1/4 cup warm milk – 1/2 cup granulated sugar – 1/4 cup melted butter – 2 large eggs – 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour – 1/2 tsp salt – Vegetable oil (for frying)

Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, dissolve 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast in 1/4 cup warm milk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

Mix the Dough

--In a large mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 2 large eggs, and 1/4 cup melted butter.  --Stir in the yeast mixture. Gradually add 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour and 1/2 tsp salt, mixing until the dough comes together.

Knead the Dough

--Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.  --Place it in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shape the Donuts

--Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness.  --Use a donut cutter or two round cutters (one larger, one smaller) to cut out donut shapes. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Fry the Donuts

--Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).  --Fry the donuts a few at a time, about 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown. --Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Glaze and Enjoy

--While still warm, dip the donuts in your favorite glaze or sprinkle with powdered sugar.  --Enjoy your homemade donuts fresh!

Tips:

For extra flavor: Add a dash of vanilla extract to the dough. For a variety: Try different glazes like chocolate or maple.
